		Bass Communion is one of Steven Wilson's ongoing musical projects. The focus of Bass Communion is on ambient music built from natural, manipulated sounds.
		The Bears is an intelligent, mature band consisting of Adrian Belew + Psychodots (Rob Fetters, Bob Nyswonger and Chris Arduser). The twin guitar and vocal work of Fetters and Belew is quirky and perfectly structured and executed. Great stuff. Concert Log!

		Jeff Beck is a timeless classic, one of the truly great and continually innovative guitarists. He continues to embrace new technology while maintaining his style and tone.
		Adrian Belew is an amazing, exciting, and unique guitarist. Adrian has worked with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, The Talking Heads, King Crimson, The Bears, and others. Adrian and The Bears amazed me in a small club in 1986. Adrian moves across musical styles and settings with grace and dignity from his Beatles- influenced solo work to the complexities of Crim. 		Berlin Guitar Ensemble is a large ensemble performing unit of Guitar Craft and a real jaw dropper. Ever wonder what a roomful of acoustic guitars playing with perfect precision sound like together?
		Big Time is a Guitar Craft trio from Argentina. Vibrant, talented, and immaculately synchronized, their closest reference point is the California Guitar Trio.
		The Blue Hawaiians are the best damn surf band around. Their solid lineup includes Gary Brandin, the amazing steel guitarist who forms half of The Vanduras.
		David Bowie is a music icon in a constant state of reinvention. From Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke to Tin Machine and his work with Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, Bowie never sits still.
		Terry Bozzio is an unbelievable drummer, best known for his work with Frank Zappa and Missing Persons. His solo drumming work is indescribable, his twin drumming work with Chad Wackerman is ridiculous, his work with Bozzio, Levin, Stevens is a high water mark for the rock trio format, his jazz work with BPM is awe inspiring, and his improvisations with Pat Mastelotto are the stuff of greatness. 		Bozzio, Levin, Stevens is a killer instrumental rock trio comprised of Terry Bozzio on drums, Tony Levin on Chapman Stick and bass, and Steve Stevens on guitar. Three individual musical giants with the proverbial whole being greater than the sum of the parts. One of my favorites.
		Junior Brown - if Jimi Hendrix came back to play 1950's era country music, then there would be two guys playing this stuff. Junior's command of the Guit-Steel, a double-necked instrument consisting of a Telecaster and a lap steel guitar, just makes you want to laugh out loud with joy. Highly recommended. Concert Log!
		Bill Bruford is to drumming what Steve Morse is to guitar - simply the best. Bill has transcended musical genres, moving seamlessly from complex progressive rock in Yes, King Crimson, UK, and Bruford to jazz with Bruford Levin Upper Extremities and Bill Bruford's Earthworks. I have seen Earthworks several times and they are always outstanding. Concert Log!
		Bruford Levin Upper Extremities is a jazz-y, prog-y, experimental-y unit comprised of Bill Bruford on drums, Tony Levin on Chapman Stick and bass, David Torn on guitars and loops, and Chris Botti on trumpet. A unique amalgam of intricate rhythm section interplay underneath pure brass tones and the sonic wall from Mr. Torn.
		Bubblemath is an original progressive band that lives somewhere between Frank Zappa / Mike Keneally and Gentle Giant, a unique and truly wonderful space to live. Fascinating, unique, challenging, and hum-able.
		David Byrne, the artistic visionary behind The Talking Heads, has released an impressive body of solo work. Released from the confines of the four-piece band, Byrne draws from an extensive global pallet of sounds and rhythms to create mature and fascinating music.
		California Guitar Trio was birthed from Guitar Craft. Their music is simply stunning, based on the complex relationships of three acoustic guitars. Their repertoire ranges from arrangements of Bach and Beethoven, amazing original compositions, to covers such Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Yes' Heart of the Sunrise. Concert Log!
		Centrozoon is an ambient/electronica ensemble which exists simultaneously in two forms: a instrumental duo consisting of Markus Reuter on Warr Guitar and loops and Bernard Wšstheinrich and synths and manipulations; the duo + Tim Bowness, best known as the vocalist in no-man. Thought provoking, always interesting, and occasionally brilliant.
		Chroma Key is a fascinating project driven by Kevin Moore, the founding keyboardist for Dream Theater. The sound is a wonderful use of technology to create music that is organic in tone and in feel. The use of spoken word is used as prevalent as is sung melody. I often think of Chroma Key as what Alan Parsons was trying to do.

		Les Claypool is a musical machine, best known for his work with Primus, but more recently with Oysterhead, Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, and Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, all of which you can read about at his website. A unique sound and a vicious bass player.
		Nels Cline is an amazing guitarist, unique and wonderful in how he approaches his music. Although quite unique, he belongs somewhere between Bill Frisell and an industrial strength space station-based sound lab. His work spans a variety of styles, but is always interesting and fresh. Concert Log!
		Commendatore is a fractal of Los Gauchos Alemanes, in my mind the humorous side of LGA. A fascinating barrage of guitar and bass tones tastefully arranged and executed.
		Ry Cooder has transcended from artist to an instantly recognizable sound, regardless of musical genre. His work spans folk, blues, rock, jazz, Indian, Cuban, and soundtrack work. A feel and a touch for exactly what's needed and a healthy respect for other players.
		Elvis Costello is one those amazing songwriters for whom musical style is no boundary. Best known for his early New Wave hits, his body of work, his ability, and his flexibility are impressive.
		Sean Costello is an amazing young blues guitarist whose tone and presence are inconsistent with his young age. He sings with the conviction of fifty years on road and plays with a passion that separates him from the posers. A must listen. Concert Log!
		Bob Culbertson is a Chapman Stick artist whose abilities have redefined the instrument. He uses his ten-note polyphony and technique that boggles the mind and stretches the boundaries of physics to support his musical vision and taste in a solo Stick environment. You won't believe what you are hearing is one guy without overdubs.
		Christian de Santis is a member of Los Gauchos Alemanes and a solo artist. His solo EP Swingin - Screamin - Speedin is a wonderful guitarist's listen.
		Dixie Dregs is a legendary quintet that defies categorization - except perhaps stunt instrumental music. A given album may contain superb tunes in any of several genres - jazz, blues, rock, baroque, etc. Led by Steve Morse, the Dregs never fail to amaze and inspire with superb musicianship and tasteful tunes. 		Djam Karet is a California based band whose work exists comfortably in both progressive instrumental and ambient worlds. Concert Log!
		Dream Theater is an excellent New York-based progressive band. Each of the five musicians is incredible and they mesh as a unit as well as any band I have ever heard. Their music moves between progressive and prog-metal. Whatever it is, it is amazing. Concert Log!
		Bill Bruford's Earthworks is Bill Bruford's jazz quartet. Stunning, simply stunning with elegant song writing, outstanding musicianship, and a re-birth of the classic and classy jazz quartet. Concert Log!
		Eat Static is an offshoot of Ozric Tentacles with a focus on dance/trance music. Although not traditionally my cup of tea,the innovative use of technology coupled with a 1950's Science Fiction B-Movie sense of humor is entertaining and fresh.
		Electric Gauchos is another Guitar Craft-based ensemble and a variation on the theme of Los Gauchos Alemanes. Featuring Fernando Kabusacki, Steve Ball, and drummer extraordinaire Fernando Samalea Electric Gauchos is one of my favorites.
		ELP is another icon and one of the founding sounds of progressive rock. Concert Log!
		Europa String Choir is another ensemble grown from the seeds of Guitar Craft. It fluidly functions as a duo, a trio, and a quartet with each variation creating a magical listening experience.
		The Flower Kings is an excellent progressive band from Sweden. They combine excellent guitar work, solid songwriting, and top-shelf musicianship with a symphonic sound, complex arrangements, and incredible attention to detail. 		Robben Ford is a stunning and versatile guitarist and vocalist, equally at ease in blues, jazz, and rock settings. One of the best guitarists around. Concert Log!
		Robert Fripp has produced some amazing music with Brian Eno, David Sylvian, The League of Gentlemen, The League of Crafty Guitarists and more in addition to his seminal work with King Crimson. Robert's solo work, in an ambient form he calls Soundscapes, is powerful and innovative. Robert is also the founder of Guitar Craft. Concert Log!
		Bill Frisell is an American treasure, the Miles Davis of guitar. His tone, taste, and touch is the stuff of legends. A must listen and a huge inspiration for Loren Claypool Guitar Ensemble. Concert Log!
		Reeves Gabrels is best known as the guitarist with David Bowie during and after Tin Machine. Reeves is also a solo artist and another monster guitarist, with tone and taste for days. His live version of Dig a Pony is a showstopper. Incredible chops in a great musical context. A must listen.
		Peter Gabriel is a founding member of Genesis and a remarkable visionary. His solo work is unique and powerful - always a leader, never a follower. Concert Log!
		Genesis is an icon whose work from the early 70s defined progressive rock.
		Gentle Giant is another 70s era icon innovator whose influence and impact is still being felt today. Their music is complex and stunning without the excess of the traditional long solo. The tones are amazing and the arrangements tight and superb - all the more impressive when one realizes they were recorded in an analog, pre-MIDI world. Pick up the catalog, it's like going to school for any fan of progressive music.
		Kevin Gilbert is one of the most brilliant artists ever recorded - period. Sadly he has passed on but his body of work is his legacy. 'The Shaming of the True' is a classic piece of work and Kevin's masterpiece. One of my favorites.
		Paul Gilbert is a stunning guitarist with a sharp wit, sharp chops, and sharp song writing hooks. In addition to his solo work, Paul is also a guitarist in Racer X. Concert Log!
		Guitar Circle of Chicago is a group of musicians committed to working with the principles of Guitar Craft as a "way of doing things". Loren Claypool is one of the members of the Circle.
		Trey Gunn has been the ying to Tony Levin's yang in King Crimson for the last decade. Trey is a master of the Warr Guitar and a student of Guitar Craft. Trey appeared on The League of Crafty Guitarists CD's, has worked with Robert Fripp in many settings, and has several excellent solo works. Concert Log!
		Steve Hackett is a former member of Genesis and a brilliant solo artist. He is a remarkable guitarist, equally at home with the subtlety of the solo classical guitar, the flexibility of the guitar synthesizer, and the energy of the electric guitar. Concert Log!
		Reverend Horton Heat is a shot of caffeine on guitar, a rock-a-billy dynamo with technique to match his energy. The Rev is a tremendous guitarist and a heckuva lot of fun.
		Michael Hedges emerged in 1981 as a unique and powerful force in music. Michael employed a two-hand on the neck technique on acoustic guitar and created rich tapestries of sound unlike no one before him. Michael was never content and continued to add techniques and instruments to his music. Michael was tragically killed in an auto accident in 1997, but left behind an incredible legacy of music.
		The Hellecasters is a hot trio of Telecaster wielding axeman: Will Ray, John Jorgenson, and Jerry Donahue. Eyebrows raise, jaws drop.
		John Hiatt is a remarkable singer songwriter. Even if you don't know it, you've heard his stuff recorded by many artists. Both lyrically and melodically John Hiatt is a master songwriter and a wonderful performer. Concert Log!
		Allan Holdsworth is a guitarist extraordinaire, transcending the instrument to become a bebop sax player on a six string. His chord voicings are impossible for mere mortals. Concert Log!
		Greg Howard is a Chapman Stick artist who performs both in a quartet setting and as a solo artist. His solo work fools the senses as the ears don't understand what the eyes see.
		IEM is another of Steven Wilson's ongoing musical projects. The focus of this work is on krautrock and the cosmic jazz of the 60s and 70s.
		Joe Jackson is a brilliant composer and pianist and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music. Joe continues to reinvent himself and his body of work spans from new wave to jazz to classical. Concert Log!

		Eric Johnson is an original touring member of G3 and was once asked by Steve Morse to join Dixie Dregs. Eric is a master of tone and unique guitarist. With his roots in Texas, Eric can shuffle with the best, but his music is much, much more. Eric is one of the greats and a must listen. Concert Log!
		Fernando Kabusacki is a student of Guitar Craft, a member of Futura Bold, and a founding member of Los Gauchos Alemanes. His solo work is a major inspiration for Loren Claypool Guitar Ensemble.
		Kansas is the original American progressive band, still fresh and challenging today. Concert Log!
		Mike Keneally is a Frank Zappa veteran, a monster guitarist, keyboard player, and vocalist, and a composer of epic proportions. One of my favorites and a must listen. Concert Log!
		King Crimson has been consistently been creating powerful and unique music for over 30 years. Through the legendary vision of Robert Fripp and a host of incredibly talented musicians, Crimson remains fresh and amazing. Their live improvisations are mind-boggling. 		King's X is a fascinating rock trio that combines the best of progressive meter complexities, metal energy, and pop harmonies into a unique sound. Concert Log!
		Kittyhawk is a seminal jazz fusion band with very different instrumentation: Chapman Stick, guitar, fretless guitar, cello, sax/lyricon, and drums. Excellent composition and arrangement.
		Klaatu is a brilliant band whose body of work was released in the late 70s and early 80s. At one point it was rumored that Klaatu was The Beatles recording incognito. Their album "Hope" is a stunning piece of work.
		Greg Koch is a phenomenal guitarist, an excellent clinician, a superb songwriter, and a very funny man. Must listen! Concert Log!
		k d lang is an extremely talented vocalist who crosses musical genres with ease and confidence. Concert Log!
		T Lavitz is the keyboardist for Dixie Dregs and Jazz Is Dead and an excellent solo artist with tremendous versatility.
		The League of Crafty Guitarists is the performing arm of Guitar Craft and includes many of the artists listed on this page. LCG is a unique musical experience. Must listen. Concert Log!
		Adrian Legg is a guitarist from another planet. His acoustic fingerstyle work is inordinately complex and stunningly beautiful and rich.
		Tony Levin has played with everyone as a top-notch studio bass player. He held the bottom end for Peter Gabriel and introduced the world to the Chapman Stick. Tony is the driving bottom end of King Crimson, 1/3rd of the magnificent Bozzio, Levin, Stevens, 1/4th of the incredible Liquid Tension Experiment, and the L in B.L.U.E. ( Bruford Levin Upper Extremities). Tony also creates wonderful solo music with the Tony Levin Band. Concert Log!
		David Lindley is the sweetest lap steel player around, with an immediately identifiable touch and tone. The polyester-clad Mr. Lindley also plays Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud, and Irish bouzouki. He fuses musical styles from around the world to create remarkable and unique music. 		Los Gauchos Alemanes is a cousin to CGT and a product of Guitar Craft. This quartet, however, does not stick to strictly acoustic instruments, adding electric guitar, guitar synth, and six-string bass to its sonic palette. Their music is complex and expertly arranged. LGA is an inspiration for Loren Claypool Guitar Ensemble.
		Los Straitjackets is "America's Instrumental Rock & Roll Combo!", a surf guitar quartet that performs in luchador masks! While remaining respectful to the surf music tradition, Los Straitjackets makes new music today with "gargantuan guitar tones & dominating drum sounds". Great guitar playing and a whole lot of fun!
		Lyle Lovett is a visionary and a unique voice in music today. Music historians will someday view Lyle as a defining artist. His Large Band is a sight to see and a pleasure to hear. Concert Log!
		Sean Malone is a solo artist, working under the name Gordian Knot, and a contributor to OSI. Sean plays the bass and the Chapman Stick.
		Marillion is a tremendous English progressive band that has been creating and performing incredible music since the early 80's. Their music continues to change and grow and each release stands on its own merits and as part of a greater body of work. One of my favorites and a must listen. Concert Log!
		Pat Mastelotto is the remarkable drummer for King Crimson, former drummer for Mr. Mister, a sound manipulator extraordinaire, and is involved in a number of exciting musical projects. Check out all of Pat's projects on his website.
		The Mermen are a unique surf-oriented band that stretch the stylistic boundaries of surf. A trio fronted by guitarist Jim Thomas, The Mermen create their own sound from a foundation of surf music, but freely branch out with feedback and looping technology to create a live sound that's big and in your face.
		Ennioe Morricone is an Italian composer best known for his film score work on Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. His non-traditional use of instrumentation serves to enrich his wonderful themes. One of my favorites.
		Neal Morse is a former member of Spock's Beard and Transatlantic. He is a solo artist and is a tremendously gifted songwriter and musician.
		Steve Morse is, for my money, the best all around guitarist in the world. Seeing this guy live with Dixie Dregs brings tears to my eyes. Seeing him with Deep Purple is a treat - he breathes new life into some old classic tunes. And seeing Steve fronting the three-piece Steve Morse Band is inspirational. Concert Log!
		Mr. McFall's Chamber is a different concept altogether, featuring a string quartet, bass, piano, drums, percussion, and a one-armed vocalist! Their music moves from Bach to Lowell George, from Bartok to Elvis Costello, from Astor Piazzolla to Frank Zappa and is consistently a wonderful listening experience.
		Bill Nelson was the founder and driving force behind Be Bop Deluxe in the 70s and has continued a brilliant solo career ever since. Bill's music is a sometimes a quirky kind of lo-fi experience, sometimes ambient, sometimes amazing guitar instrumental, sometimes pop, and always creating listening experiences that are truly unique. Bill is a master musician and producer with vision and energy and a large discography from which to experiment. One of my favorites.
		no-man is the combination of Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness. The music moves across genres but is always interesting, mature, and thought provoking.
		Ted Nugent is a monster rock-n-roll guitarist, a bow-hunter like no other, and the best bang for your concert entertainment buck. You gotta smile during a Ted show. Concert Log!
		Patrick O'Hearn is a Frank Zappa veteran, member of Missing Persons, and an incredible composer and solo artist.
		Chris Opperman is an exciting musician, a graduate of Berklee, trumpet player for Mike Keneally, an unbelievably gifted pianist, and leader of both Chris Opperman & The Random Factor and CO5: The Chris Opperman Quintet. 		Porcupine Tree is a wonderful English progressive band. Steven Wilson is the chief songwriter and guitarist and does a tremendous job of creating challenging, thought provoking, and listen-able music. Porcupine Tree is quite unique, yet sometimes reminds the listener of Pink Floyd. Concert Log!
		Willy Porter is a stunning guitarist, singer, performer, and composer. Willy carries the acoustic guitar tapping torch lit by Michael Hedges and is one of the most exciting guitarists around today. Alternate tunings, 3-string capos, and 10 magical fingers combine with thoughtful lyrics, a strong voice, and a wonderful imagination to create a mesmerizing musical experience. Concert Log!
		Psychodots is The Bears minus Adrian Belew. Intelligent and witty with hooks by the dozen and a whole lotta fun.
		Queen is an iconic British band that bent genres with tremendous musical diversity, lush multi-layered arrangements, and dense vocal harmonies. Concert Log!
		Radiohead is a pop/rock band and a very creative quintet. Mixing the best of simple instrumentation and sonic manipulation with a focus on a good song, Radiohead is exciting and innovative.
		Markus Reuter is a German touch guitarist and looper who, in addition to a wonderful solo catalog, has worked with Centrozoon, Europa String Choir, and Tuner, among others.
		Jordan Rudess is the keyboardist for Dream Theater. Jordan, a Julliard graduate, a member of Liquid Tension Experiment, and a solo artist, as well.
		Todd Rundgren is a gifted musician, composer, and producer whose work moves across trends. Perhaps best known for the hit Hello It's Me, Todd is a study in musical reinvention. Concert Log!
		Rush is one of the all time great bands, moving across time and styles without sacrificing their own signature sound. Concert Log!
		Fernando Samalea is an amazing Argentinean bandoneon player and drummer who has been described as the Bill Bruford of South America. Fernando is the drummer with Electric Gauchos and a regular contributor to the works of Fernando Kabusacki.
		Santos Luminosos is the electronica project of Hernan Nunez, a student of Guitar Craft, and a member of Berlin Guitar Ensemble, Commendatore, The League of Crafty Guitarists, and Los Gauchos Alemanes. Good stuff.
		Joe Satriani is one of the most creative guitarists around and a sight and sound to behold. Joe once was Steve Vai's guitar teacher. Joe is special artist who balances innovation with musicality. Joe live is simply stunning. Concert Log!
		Seattle Guitar Circle is a Guitar Craft-spawned performing ensemble. Beautiful music from a small group of acoustic guitars performing with incredible synchronization.
		Sigur Ros is an amazing band from Iceland that evokes the starkness of the frozen landscape of their native land. Although unique, their sound on occasion reminds the listener a bit of Radiohead, yet is more free and unfettered from the constricts of mainstream music, and also conjurs up the classical music of Sibelius. The lyrics are sung in either Icelandic or in a made-up language called "Hopelandic". It'll entertain you, stretch you, and make you scratch your head in wonder. One of my favorites. Concert Log!
		Steely Dan is a timeless classic and instantly recognizable. Their song writing and arranging is without peer and their concerts are perfect. Concert Log!
		Steve Stevens is best known as the guitarist for Billy Idol. His solo work and his contributions to Bozzio, Levin, Stevens are indications of his ability as a player, composer, and arranger.
		Andy Summers is best known as the guitarist for The Police. Andy has built an impressive catalog of solo work with a focus as a jazz guitarist. Excellent, tasteful, and very heady stuff.
		David Sylvian is a unique and wonderful artist with a gift for lyric and a penchant for sculpting images with sounds. His view of tone and of space is from a different perspective, one that captures the heart and the mind of the listener.
		Talking Heads is a seminal band from the 70s and 80s who combined rock, punk, pop, funk, new wave, art rock, and world music into a distinctive and fascinating sound. Their music remains fresh and vibrant.
		Steve Tibbets is an avant garde sonic experimentalist who has pushed the boundaries of sonic manipulation of recorded guitar to new heights.
		David Torn is an avant garde sonic experimentalist who has pushed the boundaries of guitar looping to new heights. David is a member of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities and an exciting solo performer.
		Tortoise is an exciting and fascinating Chicago-based band, with one foot in progressive and one in experimental. Their sound is uniquely their own but one conceptual reference point is instrumental Radiohead. Most excellent.
		Transatlantic is a progressive supergroup comprised of Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings, Pete Trewavas of Marillion, and Neal Morse formerly of Spock's Beard. A wonderful amalgamation of four different perspectives yielding some stunning music.
		Robin Trower has remained one of the most innovative guitarists from his days in Procol Harum through his solo career that has spanned almost 30 years. No one makes a Strat sound like Trower. Concert Log!

		Stevie Ray Vaughan was a once-in-a-generation musician, a guitarist who perceived the instrument in a fundamentally different way, a performer who channeled musical energy to the audience in a way that defies reason and understanding. He is sadly missed.
