A phone call
While vacationing today, I received a call from mad scientist, guitarist and guitar-tech extraordinaire Sam Hubbell with outstanding news and a few suggestions regarding the Baritone Tele. He is in the final stages of breathing life into the Porter Wagoner / Little Charlie Baty / Trey Gunn inspired creation. Issues we needed to resolve include:
- Sam is unhappy with the tonal impact of the coil tap due to the frequency cut it induces and recommends we go back to a standard three way configuration with no tap. Done.
- Sam has acquired some vintage Sprague tone caps from the good folks at Victoria Amps and recommends inserting one into the tone path. Duh, done again.
- Sam is concerned about the weight balance between the heavy Fender tuning keys and the light body and recommends using vintage style Klusons. Done yet again.
- Sam used the special bit he received from Fender and hogged out a mint green pickguard for the P-90 pickup. Wahoo!
