Tips to manipulate, filter, and mangle I

Last weekend I announced my latest project Breathe and invited folks to contribute their suggestions on how they "manipulate, filter, and mangle" guitar tones. I've had contributions come through social networks and forums and thoughts I'd collect them all here in one place. Without further adieu:
  • Toby Graves of Kent, WA offers "I like to attach a roach clip to the strings on my Warr to get a ring mod effect. It's not actually a roach, it's an alligator clip for jumpering electronic circuits, but I cut the wire off. Usually it works best if you clip the 'clip' to one of the strings over or near the pickups. ...I would run the "clipped" i.e. redneck ring mod signal through a micro-synth too. I seem to remember it could get a little strange."
  • Kaspar Torn of Estonia offers "I'd suggest you investigate 'Usine'."
  • Bruce Stevens of Chapel Hill, NC offers "I have been having some fun with KTGranulator... granular synthesis plugin."
  • Luca Formentini of Italy offers "Finally decide to go Audiomulch. Still using AM now, very happy with it: simple, deep and yet very light. The granulator in smartelectronics is very similar to the one you can find in AM. There is a very nice sw to process audio files: Kenaxis."
  • Greg Hooper of Brisbane, Australia offers "I have been post processing in Reaper rather than using live fx - I almost always DI clean and add fx later. Great news though!!! The new version of Audiomulch will be out soon and I think it will be 'THE' one to use, addressing the limitations of the current version. I know the developer Ross - another Australian - a very smart guy, very focussed and you can be confident that the coding will be solid and efficient. He has been doing a lot of performance as well, so the performative aspects of the next version should also be pretty mature."
Thanks to everyone for their tips and tricks, much appreciated. And more so, thanks to everyone who has sent their support and positive energy!

Do you manipulate, filter, and mangle guitar tones? Drop me a line, comment on the blog, connect on one of the social network outposts, or post on a forum, whatever works for you. I'll collect the ideas as they come in and post 'em here.
