Yesterday I upgraded the most critical piece of my studio software, Pro Tools LE, from version 7.4 to version 8. I tested and experimented in two working sessions and I'm thrilled with the results. I had no stability issues at any point during the sessions and only one plug-in loading problem; MoogerFooger Analog Delay won't load due to Pro Tools not recognizing the iLok authorization, although it's there. I've reported the problem to Digidesign and am awaiting their feedback. Otherwise, I'm in great shape.
The overall look and feel of the software has improved with a more effective user interface and color schemes. There are several new features and extensions but what blew me away is the incredible array of effect and instrument plug-ins that ship with the product. So much of what I achieved from a mass of cobbled together VST plug-ins for
One Feather Shy can now be done with what Digidesign delivers in version 8, and them some! Exquisite virtual instruments, a bevy of sonic manipulators, and improved standard effects combine to make this blog post seem like a commercial.
The addition of the LED Cinema Display makes the work environment über excellent. Adding the POD Farm capabilities to those delivered in version 8 makes my imagination the limit of what can be accomplished sonically. And, of course, I have the additional wonder that will come with the Sound Toys bundle, expected to arrive any day.
Technology aside, I had a great time playing extended improvs during the testing sessions. It is good to begin to stretch my creative side again! My cup runneth over with ideas to be realized in the upcoming project and I am incredibly stoked to begin the process of getting them to "tape". I'm just about ready to hit the big red record button!
