With the new computer on order, I turned my attention today to preparing for its arrival. I'm looking to clean the studio up during this process, so I'll be de-installing all of the software and doing fresh installs on the new machine. This approach begats several questions around authorization, etc. I've fired off emails to the companies in question to make sure I don't paint myself into a corner.
One of the upgrade issues I have is the move from a PPC processor to an Intel processor. I used several VST effects on
One Feather Shy and wasn't sure which are Universal Binary, meaning they will run on both PPC and Intel platforms, and which were old school PPC. Well, I figured that out today and it's not all good news. I'll have to jettison several effects, most of which aren't an issue. I will, however, lose a few special effects; the daHornet synth, Analog Delay, Trem+, Reversinator, Cyanide, and SupaPhaser. Aaargh, massive bummer. Nothing I can do, they simply won't work in the new environment.
The good news is the SoundToys Native effects bundle I sprung for has wonderful delays, filters, phasers, etc., so I'll have some truly outstanding replacements. I keep reminding myself of that.
I also launched a pair of surveys today, one for my connections on Twitter, Facebook, and iLike, and the other for my connections on MySpace. I have over 1600 MySpace "friends", so I decided to isolate that group. We're running a contest with each survey that ends at midnight, Oct. 31st, giving away a copy of
One Feather Shy to a randomly drawn winner from each survey group. Hopefully we'll get a good response and good information to help with our marketing efforts.
Now playing: Bill Nelson, Silvertone Fountains
