In spite of the lack of blog posts over the last few days, we've been plenty busy here at
Clayphonic RecordsTM. Lots to do and lots to be done.
First, take a look at this site. This week we grabbed a little more horizontal real estate and reduced our font sizes by about 10%, taking advantage of the fact that most of our readers have at least a 1024px width high resolution screen. The previous version of the site was designed for a more conservative 800px width. We tested on a variety of browsers and systems and, after a minor adjustment, called it done. If you've got a 800px wide screen and now have a horizontal scroll bar to deal with, time to upgrade!
I also tested an flash mp3 player we'll be loading on our homepage and over at our
online store. The player will have 30 second excerpts from each of the songs from
One Feather Shy. The test went great so tomorrow morning I'll snip out the excerpts. After a little setup work we'll be good to go and will be live in the next day or so.
Yesterday evening we launched the first of several short, targeted surveys. Our inaugural questionnaire is wrapped inside of a contest for the known buyers of
One Feather Shy, both CDs and downloads. The winner will be drawn from a metaphorical hat of participants and will choose either a copy of
One Feather Shy (a great gift for a friend!) or a Clayphonic Records
TM t-shirt in the color of their choice (as long as that color is black, grey, or blue).
Hollis and I made a trek to Naperville today to visit our favorite mad scientist, guitarist and guitar-tech extraordinaire Sam Hubbell. Sammy sprinkled a little of his love on the
Fernandes Fretless. His work consisted of replacing the stock nut with a graphite nut, blocking the trem to increase sustain, adding a second string tree for the 3rd and 4th strings, and performing a general setup including aligning the saddles with the fingerboard radius, taking all relief out of the neck for a flat fingerboard, changing the string gauges, and setting the intonation. The playability of the instrument improved dramatically; not surprisingly, my accuracy on the guitar improved considerably, as well, and is now on par with the
Pearl River. Most excellent. And it was great to see Sam, not doing enough of that.
Now playing: Los Gauchos Alemanes, Los Gauchos Alemanes - Commendatore
