Today I was presented with an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I ordered, at a wonderful price point, a new Box Guitars SRB-640 12-string in natural finish. For those not familiar, Stu Box makes Box Guitars in Australia. Box Guitars are tapping instruments, but with a different setup than most. The 12-string consists of 2 sets of 6 strings, by default with each set in standard guitar tuning. Whereas most tapping instruments cover the guitar and bass range and have an extended scale length to accommodate the bass strings, (34" on my Warr Artist 10), Box Guitars have approximately the same scale length as a Strat. Matter of fact, the tonal goal for Stu Box was a Strat in a tapping instrument, with the quality of a Warr Guitar. The SRB-640 can be run in either mono or stereo at the flick of a switch. I'll have my Box Guitar within two weeks and I'm excited to begin work with it.blog for the music of Loren Claypool
